Generative AI and Teaching at Duke - Duke Center for Teaching and Learning
Audit note
Center for Teaching and Learning guidance: Duke Community Standard updated so unauthorized GenAI use is cheating; instructors define course-level AI policies with sample language and citation rules.
Against the national picture
Across all 187 Carnegie R1 universities, 178 (95.2%) publish AI guidance on their own domains, 8 are unverifiable, and exactly 1 — the University of Wyoming — has none. This page is one row of that census: every university was checked against its official domain for published AI usage guidance or policy, using the same protocol as our global audit. Snapshot 2026-10-18. “Unverifiable” does not mean “no policy” — it means the evidence sits off-domain, behind a login, or at program level only, and could not be confirmed as university-wide policy.
